Wheelabrator claims that Municipal Solid Waste Incinerators are one of the cleanest forms of electricity production. They cite a 9 year old letter written by an EPA official that over exaggerates the environmental benefits and is not in coincidence with EPA policy.

It's not ideal of course, but it actually is a lot better than it used to be. At the temperatures in the incinerator, there is virtually no ash released anymore and the large majority of the gases produced are trapped and converted into energy. So being they have to deal with the gases at a landfill somehow anyways, might as well make it into energy and reuse it!
