So we have rocks consisting of carbonized plant matter that we hack up the earth to get to, then we burn them to make energy and let the smoke into the atmosphere. If coal is green, what isn't?

If we were just using coal (and no oil) then the co2 from coal would not be so bad, alone, it might be proven to be good for the amazon, in a feeding the ecological basis viewpoint. However with oil too, they both add up to co2 over production.

Do we raze entire mountaintops to produce wind or solar energy? Does tidal energy production create acid rain? Do geothermal power plants take thousands of lives to obtain the source of their energy?

Completely rediculous! Not that they event talk about clean coal technologies, but any process that poisons people and ecosystems is not green even if CO2 is sequestered. It's about NOT USING stored sunlight since it's just not sustainable!

The coal industry is currently the biggest greenwashers out there, in my opinion. They think if they keep telling us it's a clean option than we'll eventually start believing it. They not even saying something more subtle like "cleaner." Nope, coal is clean! I don’t consider mercury leeching into the water supply clean but I guess it’s just a matter of semantics. Give me a break…

TO quote from 'coaleducation.org: It is believed that combustion (ie burning of coal) has partially contributed to the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. Increased atmospheric carbon dioxide levels may result in warmer climates due to the "greenhouse effect." The increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide prevents heat from escaping from the earth, thus warming the atmosphere."
